Description

Finally I'm done with this one, my 7th Arvalis-inspired Pokemon drawing. Gliagar was a huge pain in my arse.

Heatran is a large, fire/steel type legendary Pokemon who has been sighted around ares with large amounts of volcanic activity such as Stark Mountain in Sinnoh and Reversal Mountain in Unova. Heatran is one of the few legendaries that can have an official gender. The Heatran population has dwindled since ancient times, when they were plentiful. This could be due to loss of habitat, or not being able to find mates. It is believed that Heatran is an ancient ancestor of Torkoal, mainly due to the fact they both share a turtle-like appearance and a fire typing. Heatran have two large horns on either side of their heads. It is suspected that these help with combat. They also have a series of bone-like nodules covering their bodies that are made of the same material as a Rhypherior's horn. It is unclear what purpose these serve as. Heatran also have large, circular pads on the bottoms of their feet that aid in scaling steep surfaces, similar to the Sceptile evolution line. This is the reason that they have been sighted hiding out on the ceilings of caves. It also acts as a way of sneaking up on prey. Heatran's appearance suggest that it is a carnivorous pokemon, probably preying on Magcargo, Numel, and even juvenile Skarmory. Unlike Torkoal, Heatran can actually move at very fast speeds, up to 40 miles per hour in short, quick bursts and 25 to 30 for longer distances.
Torkoal, as mentioned, are potential descendants of ancient Heatran populations. They have protective shells covering their bodies, where they also have a small body pouch that holds boiling water, which is released as steam out of small holes in the shell. They aren't very fast, which means they have to be on the lookout for predators with the ability to break open their shells, such as Gligar.
Gligar are large, ground/flying types that are though to be distant relatives of the Drapion evolution line. They have folds of skin connecting their limbs, which allow the Pokemon to glide through the air after jumping from a higher elevation. That being said, Gligar and its evolved form, Gliscor can't take off in flight from the ground.
